Tournament History
This will be the 8th year for the Ridglea Summer Scorcher and the fifth year as a charity tournament, benefiting Cook Children’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU.) Cook Children’s NICU is a place that’s near and dear to the hearts of Ridglea Country Club staff and members and the Fort Worth tennis community as a whole.
In March of 2014, the daughter of Kelly and Shawn Wooley, Ridglea Country Club Tennis Professional, was born three and half months early, weighing only 1 lb. 5 oz. At times, her survival was uncertain. She was finally discharged after 234 days in the NICU and came home with a feeding tube. She was on oxygen at home for a year and just had her feeding tube removed in August of 2020.
If it weren’t for the incredible staff and life-saving technology at Cook Children’s, Avery would not be the thriving seven-year-old she is today.
And Avery’s story is just one example of the miracles that happen in the NICU at Cook Children’s everyday.
Over the past five years, allmost $65,000 has been raised through the Summer Scorcher with 100 percent of the proceeds being donated to Cook Children’s NICU.
